Rick Riordan (pronounced rye-or-dan) is the author of the Percy
Jackson and the Olympians series. He lives in San Antonio, Texas in the
United States of America with his wife, Becky, and two sons, Haley and
Patrick.
It's thanks to Haley that Percy Jackson and the Olympians was
created. While studying Greek mythology in second grade Haley asked his
dad to tell him some him some bedtime stories about the Greek gods and
heroes. When there were no new myths to tell, Haley asked his dad to
make up a story using some of the characters. When the story was finished, Haley said that
Rick should write it down. Percy Jackson and the Olympians had been born! Here are some facts
about him:

He was born on 5th June 1964, and he and shares his
birthday with Becky;

He's been married for over twenty years, and his wedding
day is the same as his birthday;

He taught English and history for fifteen years at schools
in California and Texas;

Before The Lightning Thief he wrote six adult mystery
novels - the Tres Navarre series;

He is the author of The 39 Clues: Maze of Bones (book 1 in
The 39 Clues series which will span 10 books, 355 trading cards, and an
online game);

His first name is actually Richard;

His name in Japanese romanji is Ritsuku Rioodan;

He gives really good hugs (from my own personal
experience)
